A MOST UNUSUAL GERMAN NAVAL DAGGER COMPLETE WITH STRAPS AND KNOT.

This naval dagger shows quite a bit of history and progression in age and development of wearing this type of dagger from WW1 to later 1930’s. It seems to have started life in the 1920’s and has a beautiful larger Imperial style crossguard with capstan ends and central spring release button. There is a lovely toned celluloid over wood grip with a single wire wrap and the pommel is a brass ‘ reeds and cattail’ ball from the 1929 dagger period. Everything fits together beautifully so I think this naval officer upgraded his dagger as he went along. In addition there is an original Imperial naval knot tied around the pommel and crossguard. This is a silver bullion knot that has toned down go a more golden colour, but has the red/black flecks woven into the cord. The tie is in the Third Reich style, has been in place for ever too, so this Officer could well have seen service in the early Third Reich navy. The blade is completely plain and has double fullers. There is no maker mark. In addition it has a good set of Third Reich/Weimar blue cloth moire hangers with all the clips and chain. A very interesting dagger!
