LUFTWAFFE 1st Pattn. DAGGER BY HERDER - NAMED.

This is an interesting variation 1st Pattn dagger by Richard A Herder. The dagger itself seems to be in alloy or aluminium with earlier brass inserted swastika discs to the pommel and crossguard. I’ve had a few Herder 1st Lufts in my time and it seems they did a little mixing and matching. The blue leather grip is perfect with a single wire wrap. The original 23cm bullion knot is tied in place, but is quite frayed where it’s rubbed against the crossguard in wear. The scabbard is complete and has all solid nickel fittings, including a very nice nickel chain assembly. The body of the scabbard is actually textured blue paint, but looks exactly like leather. It’s certainly NOT a modern re-paint as looking at the surface closely, it’s been done a VERY long time with all the wear and surface age and scratches etc. Added to this, the scabbard throat has the original owners name nicely scratched into the surface. Looks to be ‘GULSCH’.
The blade is nickel plated and in good condition with some light surface scratches along one edge. No mother damage or nicks. The HERDER trademark/name is etched into the blade riccasso.
A great deal here!
