THIRD REICH PRODUCED RURAL POLICE BAYONET. WITH FROG AND KNOT.
I think I must mention this every time I list a Police bayonet that no two are the same and they are a fascinating study in their own right.
MOST police bayonets are re-issued Weimar clamshell types, that the armourers altered for the early Third Reich period. Removed the clamshell, cut down the grip, scabbard and blade and put an oval aluminium Third Reich police badge on the grip. These are easily spotted as you can see where the blade has been shortened and where the stag grips were cut down and have the old river holes near the crossguard. They also were numbered during the Weimar era and matching (usually) identification numbers are stamped on the scabbard upper fitting and the reverse crossguard.
Of course production continued during the late 30’s and early 40’s but they were produced ‘correctly’ then. No need to cut anything down etc. They were just made ‘as is’. These police bayonets are actually quite hard to find as I don’t think too many were produced. THIS is one of these. The hit and crossguard are made of cast aluminium, no heavy nickel/brass. The stag grips are the correct size and have the original steel/nickel rivets in place. The dark brown leather scabbard is in very good order with both fittings stapled to the leather body. The near mint nickel plated blade has NO cut down tip and is in very nice condition. The single WKC knights head trademark is stamped to the reverse riccasso. There is a nice narrow brown frog with a police portapee attached. The police insignia on the grip is a little unusual as they have use the slightly bigger police badge from the police officers sword!
Totally original as you can see it has been there for ever! Another very nice police bayonet variation.
