EARLY NSKK DAGGER BY EMIL VOOS.

A dagger by Voos is always interesting as their trademark of a snake coiled around a tree stump is always unusual to see! This is an early dagger dating from the early 1930’s. It has all solid nickel fittings with the lower crossguard marked with the Gau Ns for Niedersachsen. These early NSKK daggers all started life as SA daggers, so had brown scabbards. To differentiate between the newly formed NSKK and the SA, members were ordered to paint their scabbards black. This was done in a variety of ways, usually by hand with basic black paint! Some were professionally painted, but usually they are pretty crude. It wasn’t until later when RZM period daggers were made at the factory, that ‘factory painted’ scabbards appeared. This one has a gloss black finished scabbard in very good condition. The blade is slightly grey and lost a bit of bits ‘lustre’ but otherwise is in very good shape with no damage and clear motto. The Emil Voos trademark is etched into the reverse riccasso.
