MOST UNUSUAL SHOOTING ASSOCIATION DAGGER/CUTLASS WITH ORANGE CELLULOID GRIP.

I’ve had a few Shooting Association daggers recently, in fact I have another by Horster listed elsewhere. These are rare pieces, and whist the German Shooting Association existed in the 1900’s (and before) and still exists today. The Third Reich Shooting Association as a para-military organisation, only existed for a few years in the late 1930’s, before being disbanded and suitable members drafted into the Wehrmacht etc as snipers and marksmen. This dagger is most unusual. It confirmed to all the other ones I have owned. Alloy hilt fittings etc but this had a beautiful ORANGE grip in solid celluloid! Looks amazing. Brass crossed rifles are pinned to the grip, clamshell has the circular Shooting Association badge pinned through. This is the only place where there is any Third Reich connection, as it features 2 tiny swastikas around the edge. Scabbard is black leather and softer than others I’ve had but 100% real. Each nickel plated scabbard fitting is numbered under the fixing staple. The blade has all the normal shooting scenes etched along each side. The blade riccasso SA’s are slightly longer/deeper than on similar blades I have. There is NO maker mark evident. Quite a few companies made these, Eickhorn and Alcoso being the most encountered, however Horster made them and so did WKC as it’s in their catalogue! I’ve had a few with no maker, like this one, but none I can remember with an orange grip. I am pretty sure, like navy celluloid grips, this started out as being somewhat lighter than this, perhaps even cream/white, but old celluloid darkens over time and picks up patina and UV light.
Good looking piece!!
