EICKHORN-‘THE ALTERNATE ‘ROON’ OFFICERS SWORD.

Not too many collectors know that amongst the series of Field Marshal swords Eickhorn produced, there were TWO designs for the ‘Roon’ pattern. I have yet to discover why and we probably never will. This ,alternate Roon’ sword was featured on their shop advertising counter card (pictured) and was produced quite late as all the ones I have found are guided aluminium, not brass. Sword features a beautiful large oak leaf on the langet instead of a closed wing eagle and swastika. Beautifully made, as all Eickhorn are, dove head gilded hilt, profusely decorated with oak leaves etc. The gilt is a little worn on the edges due to use, and the gilding has darkened a little on the top dove head part. . Black celluloid grip with triple wire wrap is perfect. Scabbard has 85% of the original black paint. This is quite a long sword and measures 42 “ overall. The nickel plated blade is in mint condition and the Eickhorn squirrel trademark for 1935-41 is deeply stamped into the reverse riccasso. A great sword and seldom found. If you collect the Field Marchsl series, you need this one too!
