A VERY EARLY AND UNCLEANED RAD HEWER BY EICKHORN.

This is a great looking dagger and personally I really like them like this. An initial production huge RAD hewer that would have been worn by both officers and men. This was made of solid nickel/brass and therefore weighs a ton! The silver surfaces have just not been cleaned so are all tarnished to a blue/black colour. The grip plates are in super shape, very thick and ribbed. No damage to the pommel and crossguard. The scabbard is also covered in patina but you can see places where the hanger has rubbed away the silver finish. The scabbard body has original black paint but where it’s worn off you can see the blued metal surface underneath. The heavy bottom fitting shows a few period minor dents but is in remarkable condition. The scabbard throat is stamped BN 170. The huge slab sided bowie type blade is lovely. No damage, no edge nicks or sharpening. The RAD motto ‘Labour enobles’ is deeply etched into the surface and has good background colour to the letters. The reverse riccasso has the very early small oval Eickhorn trademark, used on full STAG RAD’s as well as early SA Rohm daggers. It also has the RADJ in a triangle stamping. A really GREAT looking dagger. Don’t clean it!!
